My blog is veteran among Slovenian blogs (equals OLD) and when I recently updated WordPress/MySQL database to UTF-8 character set, which is used in “newer” versions (2.2+) of WordPress (old ones used character set latin1_swedish_ci for example), I lost some of the slovenian special characters in my blog posts (like č – ch,š – sh, ž..).

If you’re experiencing similar problems, official site recommends this guide which is a pain in the ass to do, if you’re not willing to spend a lot of time and/or you’re not very experienced with MySQL/phpMyAdmin. Simpler (& working) plan is to use this plugin –  UTF-8 Database Converter, which did the trick in a minute in my case.

Before you do anything, backup the database.
